BOOKS HAVE BEEN MY LIFETIME PASSION. First as a reader, then as a photographer. Like you, I don't live in a chateau with acres of wall space on which to hang hundreds of paintings and photos. But I have found that collecting art and photo books is infinitely satisfying. And so is the creation of photo books.

In the past, publishing a photo book meant printing a minimum of 5 or 6 thousand copies. And this in turn meant that small publishers, like Western Eye, could hardly take a chance on books without a wide popular appeal. It's a brave new world today, and I am eagerly embracing new options for producing stunning new photo books. My first two on-demand books turned out splendidly. My latest even better.

UNKNOWN PATAGONIA is my third on-demand hardbound book. And although I hate to pick favorites, I think it is my best book yet

FORESTS OF LIGHT was my first large-size, on-demand photo book. It was also a long-project, distilling the best and most personal images from over thirty years of photography among the aspen forests of the Rocky Mountains. In every season, these forests, these noble white-barked trees are breathtaking. If ever there was a poetic tree, the aspen is it. Forests of Light is available in two formats, a standard edition, 10x8 inches, hardbound, and a deluxe larger-sized limited edition, 13x11 inches. Both books are identical in content, photos, text and design. Only the size is different.

Once again, you can preview, or browse the content of this book by using the Book Show widget just to the left. A link on this widget can connect you with the blurb.com where you can order the standard edition of this book to be printed, bound and delivered. This standard edition and the larger, deluxe edition are identical except for the size of the pages and photos.

The larger, deluxe version is available only from my office in Sedona Arizona, with a handsome archival print from the book. Initially I was able to sell the larger book for $100, but like so much else, the cost of producing this 120-page book has continued to rise and I now have to charge $125 for the book and print. If you are interested, please call my assistant, Diane Hoffman, in Sedona at 1 800 333 5178.
Happily, the standard edition of Forests of Light still costs only $50 plus shipping from blurb.com

And you can access the eBOOK version on my Electronic Photo Book page or
> eBOOK PAGE

BLUE LIGHT was my second on-demand book from blurb.com. It might be better described as a "monograph" than a full-sized photo book. It is a hardbound 10x8 inch volume of only 40 pages. But it showcases and celebrates one of my favorite places, the marble caverns of Patagonia, on the shore of Lago Carrera, the second largest lake in South America. These caverns and free-standing formations like the Marble Cathedral and the Marble Chapel, rising out of the crystalline turquoise waters of the lake, are simply like nothing else. The Chilean government has designated the Marble Caverns of Lago Carrera as a Santuario de la Naturaleza, or Nature Sanctuary. For me, these caves are the slot canyons of the southern hemisphere. Surreal invitations to surreal photography.

Again, just to the left, you will see a Book Show widget in which you will be able to browse or flip through all the pages of this book — if you click on the full screen icon once the preview has started the book image will fill your computer screen, just as if you were holding the book in your hands.

And of course, via this Book Show widget, you can access the blurb.com web site and order your own copy. Only $35 plus shipping. Naturally, the newly redesigned eBOOK version of blue light is also available on my
eBOOK PAGE
